Aditya Birla World Academy (ABWA), India’s leading International School, in association with BITS Pilani conducted ‘Infinity 2022- The Ultimate Math Championship’ to foster the love for mathematics among young geniuses. The championship attracted 930 students from 123 schools across the regions, including 195 teams from the senior group (grades 9 and 10) and 109 teams from the advanced group (grades 11 and 12). Infinity 2022 saw a remarkable increase in participation from 567 to 930 students and 189 to 304 teams as compared to last year. Young talent from Dubai, Doha, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Bhutan, and India completed in Infinity 2022.

The championship was organised with an aim to enhance students’ mathematical skills by providing them with a forum to compete against students from all around India and Asia. The preliminary event of Infinity was conducted on 8th January 2022 to shortlist the top 50 teams. These teams further competed in the final events conducted on 21st and 22nd January 2022. The Guests of Honour for the championship were Dr James Tanton (Mathematician at Mathematical Association of America) & Dr Souvik Bhattacharyya (Vice-Chancellor, BITS Pilani)

The participants who won the ‘Infinity Champions of the Year’ category are Aarav Monga, Advit Ranawade and Aarnav Gogri from Dhirubhai Ambani International School (Advanced Team); and Meet Fadia, Soham Gupta and Yash Mehta from Sri Sathya Sai Vidya Vihar school (Seniors Team). ‘Mathematician of the Year 2022’ award winners are – Suhaan Mobhani from Aditya Birla World Academy, Meet Fadia from Sri Sathya Sai Vidya Vihar (Seniors Team) and Shreyan Ray from La Martiniere for Boys, Kolkata, Shivansh Mangal from Shri Ram Ashram Public school (Advanced Team). There were several other winners of different competition such as Math Challengers, Bulb Your Ideas, Pass the Baton and Quizzitch.

Mrs. Radhika Sinha, Principal, Aditya Birla World Academy said, “During the championship, we have seen exceptional mathematics skills from students across the globe. We are delighted to provide a platform that paves the route for young talent to be recognized at a global level. The contest highlights Indian students’ skills to the world and encourages learning and exposure on an international platform.”

Mr. Jins Jose – Team Leader of a participating school said “During the pandemic, a great mathematical event was organized online. Students loved all the rounds, which were meticulously planned to maintain student engagement with enthusiasm. This competition entailed a lot of new ideas and the development of collaborative teamwork among children. We would like to thank and congratulations to all the dedicated teachers and other staff members behind this event to make this a huge success. Many days of hard effort had a significant impact on the minds of young mathematicians. We are looking forward for participating again at infinity 2023”.

Mr. Prodipta Hore, Coordinator of International Initiatives at Aditya Birla World Academy, proposed the concept for ‘Infinity.’ This initiative’s main goal was to instil the passion for mathematics and to unravel knowledge through the exchange of ideas.
